A Long Way Home They closed the pass over the mountains it don't open until May so I take the long way round to see you I take the long way home The radio's singing Hallelujah but there's no angel here for me just snowflakes dancing in my headlights and a long way home And honey I will find a way to get home till Christmas day I'll fight the snow if it's the last thing that I do but it's a long way home a long way home And you know I tried to call you can't get a signal through these pines and anyway I might as well keep trucking it's a long way home And I'm just a little tired but I'll keep pushing anyway cause I know once I get around these mountains it's not a long way home And honey I will find a way to get home till Christmas day I'll fight the snow if it's the last thing that I do but it's a long way home a long way home And it feels like I am flying tires slipping on the ice and those lights came out of nowhere I tried to shield my eyes I tried Honey I'm so very sorry I really tried my best but I won't make it home in time for Christmas it's a long way home

about

Annual Christmas single from Sofia Talvik. (c) Makaki Music 2014

Bolstered by the icy visuals in the stark one-camera video, Swedish singer/songwriter Sofia Talvik’s seasonal release “A Long Way Home” rings with the bright Nordic flavor she claims as a solid birthright, echoing a priority of travelers worldwide: the drive to touch home base in the Yuletide season. While it glides along quite pleasantly on a casual first listening, the song becomes all the more poignant when reminding us that tragic events are a year-round reality, and not every holiday story has a happy ending. Talvik’s airy vocals, a chorus of blended horns, and chord changes that suggest an eighteen-wheeler shifting gears make this a road song for enjoying any time and place.

Sofia Talvik Gothenburg, Sweden

Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy, creating a special niche of folk music that has been described as neo-folk. She is a veteran performer with 8 original full length albums as well as numerous EPs, singles and tours behind her. ... more
